Gold bullion coins are held as reserves or for investment purposes because their economic value is closely tied to the metal's market price. Gold bullion coins are generally available in various weights, multiples, or fractions of a troy ounce (31.103 grams).
A collectible coin can be a coin that over time has acquired a certain interest among collectors due to its subject and rarity, or they are recently issued coins that are distinguished by limited mintages and packaging accompanied by guarantee certificates from the issuing mints.
The condition of the coin (e.g. FDC, XF, VF) is not added to investment coins, since the quality of the coin does not influence the economic valuation of the coin.
Pursuant to Article 10, Paragraph 1, No. 11, of Presidential Decree No. 633 of October 26, 1972, the sale of gold bars and plaques with a purity equal to or greater than 995/°°° (23.88 carats) and gold coins with a purity equal to or greater than 900/°°° (21.60 carats), minted after 1800, is exempt from VAT.
The choice between coins and ingots is the same. A coin's composition is guaranteed by the issuing state mint, while Argor-Heraeus ingots are guaranteed by Good Delivery Standards. Coins come in a wide variety of denominations and weights, and their availability is limited to the mintage of the year of issue. Ingots, on the other hand, are available in the 9 denominations listed online and their availability depends on demand.
